I have five classes left to take for both of my bachelor degrees...two Women's Studies classes and three Sociology electives. All summer I had toyed with the idea of splitting them up since I can't start graduate school until next fall. However when it came time to register last month I decided just to get it all over with and registered for all five classes. No point in dragging it out after a shameful 15 years in school.
Those five classes meant I would be on campus on Tuesdays for over 13 hours straight...8:30am until 9:45pm since two classes are at night...once again I reminded myself to suck it up since a semester only has 16 Tuesday's and I would just count them down.
Then a couple of weeks ago the one Sociology class I had really looked forward to taking was canceled. I started going back to that "splitting up the classes" idea. The Pro/Con list was even sided so that was no help. I asked friends for their opinion and they would ask "Why, if you have the time, would you stress yourself out all in one semester?"
Simple: Because I still feel the need to punish myself for my past academic indiscretions and I have no excuse not to push myself as hard as possible...kind of crazy I know.
So I kept relentlessly debating with myself until I made a decision while school supply shopping...
Right there in Staples I bought a one inch binder...you can't stuff five classes in a one inch binder...so it seems as if the decision was made.
Then I received another e-mail stating that the second one of my Sociology classes had been canceled. There was also a letter from the Dean of Humanities explaining that they were having to cancel numerous classes and there were no replacement classes to enroll in...oh and they're deeply sorry about it.
So moral of the story is I have a one inch binder, two Women's Studies classes on Tuesday nights and the chance to actually enjoy my life this semester...with my fingers crossed that this was a good decision.
And speaking of binders...here's my other new one...
I have long been a fan of organizers since high school whether it was my old Franklin planner, using my Palm Pilot or this past year I tried a small Moleskine.
I decided I wanted something that I could lay completely flat and could really custom design since there are some weeks I need all kinds of room and others that need absolutely nothing. I bought a binder, paper, dividers and pockets. They had it all at The Container Store (and a discount for teachers...just one of the many benefits of being married to Sean).
The rest of what I need I made myself...a monthly calendar to get an overall view, a small weekly sheet, and a small sheet for school assignments...oh and a cute divider page announcing each month...I absolutely needed that.
So I have two new binders ready and waiting to get life started in this week.
For now though I have Chinese take-out to eat and a movie to watch...got to enjoy the last few lazy nights of summer.
